Solar lights are electrical lights that are powered by solar energy. In all cases, photovoltaic solar modules are used to convert solar energy into electrical energy. Various types of incandescent lamps as well as fluorescent lamps or LED elements are used to generate light. Since solar energy is only generated during the day and the light is only needed after sunset, the electrical energy generated must be temporarily stored. Solar batteries are used for this purpose. Charging is often done via a charge controller to avoid damage to the batteries by charging and discharging currents.
A solar desktop lamp is typically a device consisting of a built in re-chargeable battery and LED lights giving a bright light with a minimum of power. Typically such solar desktop lamps can be powered with an USB 5V connector. Thus one can charge or run the lamp directly with a very small solar panel or one can connect it to a solar fueled power bank or battery.
A solar lamp also known as solar light or solar lantern, is a lighting system composed of a LED lamp, a solar panel, a battery, a charge controller and there may also be an inverter. The lamp operates on electricity from the battery, which is charged through the solar panel.
